ACP Reconstitution Protocol

Reconstitution Protocol for Anti-venin (Crotalidae) Polyvalent (ACP)

Depending on the size of the patient, you will either need a 60cc syringe or a 250ml bag of 0.9% NaCl. Cat or small dog (10kg) = 60ml Medium to large dog = 250 ml bag of 0.9% NaCl.

Inject 10cc of saline into the antivenin vial. Gently agitate (without shaking) for 1 minute and then draw contents out and inject into the 250 ml bag or 60ml syringe.

Repeat the same process 2 more times. Doing so will optimize the acquisition of every antivenin crystal from the ACP vial. The syringe should be filled to 60 cc by adding 0.9% NaCl to the antivenin solution.

The bag or syringe contents should then be administered intravenously over 1 hour. Monitor the patient’s HR, RR, and temperature during the administration for signs of hypersensitivity.
