The Administrator's Message to the Greater San Diego Community...

Frank LaBonte
Frank LaBonté

We have been in our new facilities since December 2005 and we are thrilled with our new state-of-the-art veterinary specialty hospital that has continued to provide a comprehensive array of specialty services for your pets.

When we conceived our new facility for Veterinary Specialty Hospital, we understood that San Diego is home to so many world-class institutions – whether in medicine, research, education, or many others – and has a great quality of life.  VSH had been serving San Diego since 1987 as the largest multi-specialty veterinary practice, and we felt that the San Diego community deserved an even more advanced veterinary specialty center.

In March 2006, I became Veterinary Specialty Hospital’s new Hospital & Practice Administrator.  I am gratified to work with such distinguished veterinary specialists as we have at VSH.  Our specialists are known nationally and internationally as true leaders in their profession.  I’m excited that we have tremendous support staff, who have the talent and commitment to deliver superior service to every pet and every family that comes through our doors.  I’m pleased that we have this beautiful facility, housing world-class equipment and technology.  All this gives me absolute confidence that we can achieve our mission with every family and every pet – that we provide the very best veterinary specialty care in a compassionate, personalized environment.

I am confident that we’ve stayed true to our vision, and that we have added a truly state-of-the-art facility to San Diego’s landscape.  Since the opening of our new facility we have continued to expand and enhance the medical services we provide.  We have increased the number of specialists in Internal Medicine, adding Dermatology services, expanding imaging to include Scintigraphy, enhancing treatment in cancer by adding radio-iodine treatment and have expanded our Intern program and added a Residency program in Internal Medicine.

No doubt the equipment, technology, and talent at VSH are second to none.  What really makes our multi-specialty hospital world-class is our commitment to service.  We pride ourselves on providing a caring and personalized environment for each and every family and pet.  We treat each client’s pet as if it were our own.  We provide our client’s extensive one-on-one consultation with our specialists and frequent updates about their pet’s condition.  This is especially true when the pet is undergoing a procedure or is hospitalized, since this is a stressful time for the pet’s owner.  We give regular feedback to the referring veterinarian throughout the treatment phase, so that all key members of the care team are kept informed.

Finally, I am pleased that the UC Davis – UC Veterinary Medical Center continues to co-locate their hemodialysis, nephrology, cardiology and behavioral services at our facility.  We also house a dentist, making VSH’s facility “one stop treatment” for all your pet’s specialty needs.

In short, the new Veterinary Specialty Hospital represents a new and better option for veterinary specialty care in the greater San Diego community.  We look forward to continuing to provide the best specialty care for your pets, with the promise to remain a leading center in the future.

All the Best,

G. Frank LaBonté, MBA, FACHE
