About
Dr. Amy Halpern is a native of Long Island, New York. She graduated from The University of Massachusetts with dual Bachelors of Science in Biology and Veterinary/Animal Sciences. Dr. Halpern then received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. Upon graduation, Dr. Halpern moved to San Diego where she completed a one year internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery with VCA. She gained invaluable experience during her internship in emergency and specialty medicine, which made her a great fit for the Emergency & Critical Care unit at VERG in Brooklyn, New York. For four years she practiced high quality medicine in a high volume environment, working closely with specialists and teaching veterinary interns. She joined the VSH family in 2022 in the Emergency and Critical Care department. Her professional interests include trauma, shock, toxicities, and inpatient management. Since moving back to sunny San Diego, Dr. Halpern has enjoyed catching up with old friends and of course eating all of the tacos! She loves going to baseball games (Go Yankees!), hiking with her dogs (Tesla and Toby) and watching the gorgeous sunsets with her cat (Oliver).
