Saves: Archie’s blood saved a dog who was newly diagnosed with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. The patient was very sick and anemic and needed time for medications to start working. Archie’s blood allowed the patient to survive long enough for the medications to kick in. Although the patient continues to see our Internal Medicine department, he has not needed another blood transfusion since. Without Archie’s blood, the patient would have passed before he could receive treatment.
