A greyhound with a life vest standing by the water

Pico

Blood Donor Since: December 2024

His big brother Donte and kitty brother, Thor, are also blood donor heroes here at VSH. Their mother is also a hero in the veterinary field as a veterinary technician at another hospital.

In December 2024, Pico donated blood for the first time. His donation went to another dog battling cancer. Though the transfusion wasn't a cure, it provided precious time, allowing that dog to spend the holidays with his beloved family.

Fun Fact: Pico’s racing career ended before it began—because let’s face it, who needs speed when you’ve got charm? A retired racing greyhound from TJ, Pico decided the high-octane life wasn’t for him. His timid yet lovable personality turned him into a track-side spectator instead of a competitor, and he’s never looked back.

While most greyhounds are known for their sleek strides, Pico prefers a more sedentary vibe. Running with his human dad? Hard pass. He’d rather stage a protest in the form of complete immobility. His true passions are napping dramatically (head hanging off the dog bed, of course) and piling up every single toy he owns so he can lounge on his treasure hoard like a dragon guarding gold.

Why Pico Deserves a Standing Ovation (or at least a pile of new toys): Pico might not have a trophy from the racetrack, but he’s won the hearts of everyone who meets him. Whether he’s leaning in for snuggles, snoozing like a contortionist, or simply being the lovable goofball that he is, Pico reminds us that true heroism comes from love, loyalty, and being your wonderfully weird self.
